These photos show the second filly, in pieces, before she is
welded back together, with the pouring "sprues" or channels thru which the
molten bronze flowed when she was cast. These will all be removed and the stubs
ground down smooth and then re-tooled to match the original surface. Where
there has been a piece cut out, for example the front of her face, that is
called a "window" and the window itself will also be cast as a separate part and
then welded back in. Having a window/s (there are several in her legs) lets the
ceramic mixture get inside each piece and coat the inside and outside of the wax
before it goes in the kiln.
